The Quinceanera is a religious and social celebration in which a young girl thanks God for the years she has already lived and the blessings she has received. This celebration acknowledges that the adolescent turning 15 is beginning to transition from childhood to adulthood. In the ceremony, the girl is also asked to renew her baptism promises. The Quinceanera emphasizes the importance of family and society in the life of the young woman. The Quinceanera solidifies her commitment to her faith and is usually followed by a reception of dances and food traditionally enjoyed by family and friends.
